It's Great!

  5.0 out of 5
This Nook is so much nicer than the first one I bought. The downloads are completed in seconds and the words are clear and easy to read. It is great buy! Would I buy it again? Yes, I would.  -pastorlj03 Farmerville, LA

Great value and I love it.

The Nook Simple Touch Reader is what it says. Simple to use and navigate. Easy to read even outdoors in full sunshine.  My only problem was not with the Reader but with the way it was shipped. Always in the past I have ordered site to store but because it this case the expected time of delivery was supposed to be a few days quicker by mail I went that route. It was a BIG mistake. Took about 16 days to arrive. It was sent by so called Express Mail which then became lost in transit not once but twice. I will never order any way but Site to Store in the future.  -nirwin Rockport, Texas

Better than original Nook
08/06/2011
   5.0 out of 5
I owned the original Nook but didn't like the fact that indexes had to be navigated using the arrows on the bottom touch screen. That was very slow. With the new Nook I can touch the link to the chapter directly, a much better solution. Word searches aren't any faster than before and I guess that's because ebook readers don't have quick processors like smart phones do. That plus the lack of a color graphics display is why the battery life on ebook readers is much longer. The microSD card slot on the new Nook is externally accessible unlike the internal position for the old Nook. My daughter now has that one. I didn't consider the Kindle because of the proprietary ebook format Amazon uses and the fact that it doesn't have a touch screen. -Whoami Roanoke, VA

An Amazing Incredible Machine
5.0 out of 5
07/24/2011
This is an amazing item! I loved my original version of the e-ink nook (the white one) but this one is so much more amazing! I love the touch screen. It's super responsive. This nook has many features that I wished my old one had. You have the option to find any page by typing in the number, unlike the original that had that weird and frustrating page selection bar. You have the option to jump back and forth to any chapter as well from the table of contents. And the dictionary is one of my favorite features. Just touch and hold a word for two seconds and the nook gives you the option to look up the word instantly! No keying it in personally needed! This nook is also great for anyone that's a fan of manga. The original e-ink nook would cut the bottom of the pages leaving parts of conversations unseen, but this nook gives you the option to shrink the page slightly to fit everything on the screen. Now this nook doesn't have a web browser or games like the original but with everyone having smart-phones and i-pods this shouldn't deter you. It's also smaller and lighter than the original, doesn't tire out your wrists like the original dose after a couple of hours. The power button on this devise is also impossible to bump and turn on or off by accident; so no accidental battery drainage. Bottom like this is a great devise! If you're on the fence take the plunge! You'll be glad you did.   -DailyPlanetIntern

Nook got me reading again!
07/18/2011
    5.0 out of 5
The convenience of having your favorite books all in one place and being able to carry them with you wherever you go is great! I'm still on my first battery charge, so I don't have experience w/life of one charge, but this edition of the Nook is excellent because the entire screen is touch, instead of just the bottom area like the 1st edition model. The fact that I can make the font larger is a huge plus, because I'm not getting any younger :) -MrsLB Clifton Park, NY

Stays charged 2 weeks with wi-fi turned on Love it
07/04/2011
5.0 out of 5

I owned the other model that is white and I had to charge it every 2 days I had just bought it and then the touch ereader came out so I returned the other one and bought the touch ereader. This one stays charged for 2 weeks with the wi-fi turned on. I haven't tried it with the wi-fi turned off. I have a light that I purchased from barns and noble to read at night, but during the day I don't need one. It is bright and clear in direct sunlight and in normal lighting. I have a Nook Color also and I can't use it outdoors because you can't see the screen so I alternate between the 2 of them depending on my location. Don't forget to download your free book every Friday at Barns and noble's website  -wscbrown Pound, VA

LOVE this thing!   5.0 out of 5                                                                       09/20/2012

I have both the Simple Touch and ST Glow light. I really don't understand those who complain about the decreased contrast on the STGL. I've compared them side by side, and it really takes imagination to see the difference. It's got plenty of contrast, as much as most books, I think.
The light is very convenient. I keep mine set low, because my eyes are so light sensitive (one of several reasons I passed on the Nook Color), but it works quite well. It's probably worth the extra money to get the GL, because a tiny Nook reading light will set you back about $15, and then you have batteries to keep up with (found pretty cheap online, but still an expense over the long run).
Battery life is excellent. It helps that I keep the light very low, but I'm not seeing much, if any difference between this and the ST. If you have it set higher, you'll get less life, but it will still be good.
Trying to decide between Nook and Kindle? Here are my thoughts. The Nook has page turning bars on BOTH sides of the device. You never have to swipe or tap if you don't want, which will keep your screen clean. You can lie in bed on either side and use either hand to turn pages with the bars. Kindle requires swiping or tapping the screen. You also have external storage on the Nook, and for some odd reason, Kindle has never offered that. The Nook is more responsive than the Kindle. And now you have a built-in backlight. For me, it's no contest.
Trying to decide between Nook ST and Nook Color or Tablet? They are very different. The Color/Tab is great for magazines and pictures, though not so great as a general Android tablet. The interface is very simple. However, the Color/Tab is heavy. You'd be amazed at how heavy it gets when you're reading. You don't want to fall asleep holding it up over your face. You'll break your nose. Many people experience eye strain from a backlit screen. You can't read well in sunlight on the Color. And, battery life is much shorter.
I have a Samsung Android tablet, but only use that for magazines and a couple other things (multiple Bible translations and a few totally unnecessary apps).
The Simple Touch is the only way to go for reading books. I absolutely love mine, and it goes everywhere with me. What could be better than having your whole library in one hand? Even kept the non-glow version, for when conditions aren't so swift (bad weather, danger of being stolen, dog park, etc.). I did get a book-like leather case, and those can be found pretty cheaply online. Also put skins on it just for fun.
My only criticism is that the screen protector is totally unnecessary. You can't really see it, though the texture of the screen is a little smoother now, but the old Simple Touch screen didn't scratch anyway. (Neither has this one).  -diinIndy

Not Bad  4.0 out of 5                                                                                       08/13/2012

I bought this ereader from the good reviews I read. It's not a bad device. It's compact and built solid. After you register downloading books was a snap. Just make sure you're in a good WiFi area. The glowlight makes reading in dark places easy on the eyes. The battery is capable of going days before you have to recharge it. I would recommend buying a good cover to protect the nook. I really believe this device will be improved with more options but for now I'm satisfied with the purchase. -rumaximo

Nook Evolved   5.0 out of 5                                                                           06/28/2012

I had the original Nook and was pleased with everything except having to use a clip on lamp or light at night. I prefer the e-ink display and when the Nook with Glow came out, I thought it would be the right choice. I have had mine for almost almost a month now and I am still very pleased with it. The glare and wash out are no place near what I experienced with my original Nook and an outside light source at night. I have been impressed with the LED's at night and the light seems to be balanced across the screen. After three weeks of use, I just put it on the charger for the first time. I highly recommend the Nook Simple Touch with Glow for anyone looking for a quality e-reader. -RevDragonrider

Best e-reader on the market!   4.0 out of 5                                                   06/20/2012

I've had every B&N nook to date and this is by far my favorite. I had a NST which I loved but died out on me (the only nook product I've ever had an issue with) I had the geek squad black tie protection plan and Best Buy gave me store credit (no hassles) to purchase another e-reader of my choice. Tried a kindle touch and didn't like the feel of it in my hands and found the interface lacking compared to the nook. I also tried the nook tablet which was great but gave me migraines from reading on an LCD for long periods of time. Finally the nook glowlight came out :)!!! After using it for about a 3 weeks with and without the glowlight on, it is everything I loved about my NST and better! The screen is super responsive, the light is wonderful for lowlight and no light conditions. After a full charge I've been reading on it just about everyday for the past 2 weeks for about 30 mins to an hour a night, and yesterday for about 5 and a half hours, searched for books to purchase on my nook for about 4 hours total throughout that time as well, all with glowlight on and I still have 48% of battery left. I am truly happy with this purchase!! The contrast loss many have claimed is not a big deal at all unless you stare very closely to the screen and compare it with a NST right next to this unit. Which is still barely noticeable.

Best and most affordable reading-based tablet.
12/27/2012
            5.0 out of 5

Got this as a gift for my mother, and gave it a test drive after. Great full screen (9 inch) tablet for the price. Very light and easy to hold for long reading sessions or for watching a movie. Its bright high resolution screen is perfect for books.
This uses a 'skinned' version of the Android OS. So it is somewhat restricted/limited as to what you can do with it. That said, the less tech savvy will probably find it far more intuitive than a standard android tablet.
Downside is the smaller media library (fewer apps and movies) than other tablets. The internal speaker also isn't very loud. But if you are looking for a large tablet for reading primarily and maybe to watch some movies and play some app games on occasion; this is the tablet for you.
Now to address some complaints I saw. Yes, on occasion the internet browser might freeze; but this is common to any tablet I've ever used, iPad 4th gen, android and anything inbetween. It happens, but not often.
It comes with instructions, a little pull out graphic-based overview of things. No especially detailed book, but I don't imagine that would be any easier to deciffer for most. Otherwise compared to most other tablets, it's not too hard to navigate and use.
As for account issues; my mother was able to log into hers just fine, and I was able to do the same. So not sure the problem there. -lancerc07 TX

Amazing Tablet!         5.0 out of 5
12/11/2012
I really love my new NOOK HD+! It's very easy to use and books, magazines and movies look amazing. It's much lighter than other tablets and my friends are definitely jealous. The ability to set-up profiles for my kids is also useful and something I've done to allow them to share the device without worrying about them playing with my books and magazines. -BlackJack44

As someone that reads a lot of books while traveling, I have found the Nook HD to be the most effective product on the market. Its cheaper and less bulky than the IPad, which my fiance owns and I find it easier to read on. The HD screen is also great for movies. Again, as someone that travels frequently, I have found it easy to watch movies and the quality is excellent.  Lastly, I find the simplicity of the Nook to be much more convenient than the competing products. Overall, I really enjoy this product. -Cooksquared

HD - CRISP & CLEAR GREAT    TABLET!       5.0 out of 5                 12/24/2012

This is a wonderful tablet. The graphics are so crisp & clear. Easy to operate!! Bought this for my son for reading book. Great for surfing the web, playing games, netflix app is great as well! - MOMMYINFLA

Wow! What an amazing tablet     5.0 out of 5                                       12/11/2012

I spent a bunch of time reviewing 7" tablets. I went to every possible online site and read most of the reviews. After all that research, i decided to buy the Nook HD. This tablet has the best screen of any 7" tablet....and you can really see it side by side other products. It was amazing for watching movies, and my subscription to US weekly looks great.
Other pros: Has expandable memory (most others do not), easy to hold in one hand (much better than the Fire), has a ton of great kids books (I have a 9 and 5 year old) and I used the "read to me" feature to record a story for my daughter when I went on a trip. Really fun - it could read any book to her in Dad's voice. Lightning fast web (only tried on my home wifi but was great there). Email works great.
I highly recommend the Nook HD  -TennisFan2013 Burlington, NJ

I spent a good deal of time looking for the right tablet for me - but also my family. NOOK HD has a terrific capability for profiles so I can set it up for my spouse, our niece and nephew, and makes it possible for me to not have to see all the stuff I own that I dont want to see. Its like several devices in one!
And you can beat the quality of the screen - its beautiful. I love the catalog and magazines. Nevermind that it has a great catalog of books. -JNYer New York, NY
